{"id":1200,"date":"2020-11-23T17:31:01","date_gmt":"2020-11-23T22:31:01","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=1200"},"modified":"2020-12-18T14:21:00","modified_gmt":"2020-12-18T19:21:00","slug":"latest-barn-find-suzuki-gs1000s-wes-cooley-replica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/latest-barn-find-suzuki-gs1000s-wes-cooley-replica\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest Barn Find: Suzuki GS1000S Wes Cooley Replica"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We all know that everyone likes a good barn find story, right? \u00a0This new one is one of my favorites and involves my buddy Mike, owner of former MOTO Sports Xing out of Kingston, NH\u00a0. \u00a0Mike&#8217;s passion is vintage, mostly Kawasaki and Ducati\u00a0 &#8211; that&#8217;s why we get along so well!!!\u00a0 And also one of the reasons I recruited him as our new Brand Ambassador, but that&#8217;s for another post&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I couple years ago, Mike called me up and told me he had something for me to check out so I stopped by on my way to work. \u00a0I was seriously speechless when I walked through the doors of his shop! \u00a0The 1979 GS1000S Wes Cooley replica sitting in his showroom is one of only 500 that Suzuki made for that year. \u00a0So I just had to find out the history of the bike &amp; how Mike got it!!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1202\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/gs1000s1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"355\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/gs1000s1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/gs1000s1-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/gs1000s1-1024x577.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/gs1000s1.jpg 1822w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 355px) 100vw, 355px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1960\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Resized_IMG_20170817_101908674-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Resized_IMG_20170817_101908674-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Resized_IMG_20170817_101908674-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Resized_IMG_20170817_101908674-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A couple months prior, Mike had someone\u00a0stop by his shop and ask if he was interested in &#8220;those older bikes.&#8221; \u00a0Of course Mike answered yes and the visitor told him his mom&#8217;s neighbor had one sitting in the barn under a blanket that he wanted to sell . \u00a0&#8220;It&#8217;s an old Suzuki,&#8221; the guy said, reaching for his phone to pull up a photo. \u00a0&#8220;Suzuki didn&#8217;t really make much that I am interested in,&#8221; said Mike as he glanced at the phone. \u00a0&#8220;Except for that one!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Turns out the bike was sitting in a barn just up the street from his shop. \u00a0So Mike got the address and drove by for five weeks\u00a0hoping to catch the owner outside.\u00a0 One Saturday he finally saw the owner out mowing the lawn and pulled in.\u00a0 And the guy actually brought out to the <strong>literal<\/strong> barn. \u00a0Under a dusty old moving blanket sat this 1979 Wes Cooley Replica!!<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1954\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1954\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1954\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMAG7096-1024x579.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"362\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMAG7096-1024x579.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMAG7096-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMAG7096-768x434.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1954\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Barn Fresh<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Mike said he could hardly believe his eyes. The bike was completely original except for the chrome <a href=\"https:\/\/supertrapp.com\/brands\/kerker\">Kerker<\/a> four into one and the jets in the carburetors; and the seller should know- he was the original owner!\u00a0 He had bought the bike new in 1980 as a leftover model from the old Suzuki dealer in Salisbury MA. Apparently the bike had sat on the showroom\u00a0 floor because the dealership owner didn&#8217;t want to sell it. Afte<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-1953\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMAG7090-300x170.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"346\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMAG7090-300x170.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMAG7090-768x434.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ricksmotorsportelectrics.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/IMAG7090-1024x579.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 346px) 100vw, 346px\" \/>r weeks of badgering, the bike was sold to the current seller.\u00a0 I can totally relate to this determination!<\/p>\n<p>The bike shows less than 8000 miles and had been stored\u00a0away since 1988 as evident by the last registration sticker on the plate. He tells me that he finally had to break down and wash the bike because so many people were running a finger through the grime to see if it was real. And boy are we glad he did.
